The Mom in Me

Here's the deal. I love Twilight. I love Edward, and, in the movie, I even love James. (Can't help it-did you SEE him?) Bella sort of annoys me, but that's beside the point. OK, so anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed the books and am looking forward to seeing the movie this Friday. BUT-

Am I the only one who thought that the author went a little too far with all of know...the...well..the "tearing up of the house" and the "destroying the bed" and the "Rosalie and I went through X amount of houses" business? I was all for my kids reading these books (I have a 14 year old step-daughter) until I got to the fourth one. I don't know, I hated the pregnancy, and I hated all the violent l.o.v.e. stories. I just feel like, as an LDS mom who knew that her book was geared toward teenage girls, she took it all a little far.

So-do you agree with me or am I just being a little (or a lot) "Mollyish"?

Hey Ashley, for some reason I don't have your email address. Send me an email and I will add you to the list of people who can view my blog. Thanks!

As for Twilight, I haven't read the books, but I wouldn't be so thrilled about those kinds of things in the book, especially knowing the author is LDS. But then I find that I am getting more and more Molly Mormon the older I get. :) I am excited to see the movie though!

I agree I was hardcore rolling my eyes about the knocking down houses stuff. I can't decide though, about what age I think the books are appropriate for. Like you say 14 is fine for the first couple. I think I'd be fine with a daughter reading BD at 16, but I may be more radical than other moms, and I don't have any girls right now. Stephenie herself said she would have been fine if they but a 15-year old recommendation on the book. But they didn't.

I'm super excited to see the movie though!
